um tai jung è uno scultore astratto di prima generazione in corea del sud. nato il 28 dicembre 1938, a mungyeong city, nella provincia di gyeongsangbuk-do. um tai jung si è laureato presso il dipartimento di scultura presso il college of fine arts della seoul national university e ha studiato presso la saint martin's school of art di londra. ha ricoperto incarichi come professore di ricerca presso la berlin fine arts university e professore presso il dipartimento di scultura in college of fine arts presso l'università nazionale di seoul. le opere di um tai jung sono caratterizzate dal suo fascino con la materialità dell'acciaio, ed è noto per i suoi contributi allo sviluppo della scultura astratta coreana.
