Professional assembly required - this is not a DIY product.
The kit must be assembled and the canvas stretched by an experienced professional framer, using wood glue (not supplied), a canvas stretching plier and clamps to hold the bars square while the glue dries. Incorrect assembly or uneven canvas tension can permanently damage the artwork and is not covered by our warranty.
All solid wood bars are included, precisely cut to size.
Assembled with the screws provided, plus wood glue for the corner joints, which is not supplied and must be sourced by your framer.
Professional tools are required and not included: a canvas stretching plier (tensioner) and clamps to hold the bars square while the glue dries.
Important:
The corner joints require wood glue, the bars must be held with clamps until the glue is fully dry, and tightening the canvas on the assembled frame requires a canvas stretching plier. Artist Biography
Jim Warren: A Visionary of Surreal Fantasy
Jim Warren stands apart as a singular figure in contemporary illustration, recognized primarily for his mesmerizing book cover designs that seamlessly blend surrealism and fantasy realism. Born November 24, 1949, in Long Beach, California, Warren’s artistic journey began organically—a childhood fascination with painting blossoming into a lifelong dedication to crafting dreamlike images that transport viewers to fantastical realms. Unlike many artists who pursue formal training, Warren honed his skills through self-teaching, mastering the traditional oil paint technique on stretched canvas and cultivating an unmistakable visual language.- Early Influences: Warren’s formative years were marked by exposure to classic fantasy literature and art movements like Surrealism—particularly the works of René Magritte and Salvador Dalí—which profoundly shaped his artistic sensibilities.
- Collaborations & Partnerships: His career gained considerable momentum through collaborations with celebrated marine artist Wyland and fellow illustrator Michael Godard, resulting in stunning murals and captivating book covers that explore themes of mythology, nature, and human emotion. Notably, Warren’s partnership with Wyland resulted in the iconic “Ocean Visions” project, showcasing his ability to convey grandeur and wonder.
The Art of Surreal Fantasy Illustration
Warren's distinctive style is characterized by meticulous detail combined with an imaginative spirit. He meticulously renders fantastical landscapes and creatures—unicorns galloping across misty meadows, mermaids gliding through turbulent seas—capturing both the beauty and peril inherent in these imagined worlds. His approach prioritizes capturing a palpable sense of atmosphere and emotion, utilizing dramatic lighting and vibrant color palettes to immerse viewers in his narratives. The artist’s meticulous brushwork contributes to an illusionistic quality that elevates his illustrations beyond mere depiction; they invite contemplation and evoke vivid sensory experiences.- Technique: Warren employs a disciplined technique—applying thin layers of oil paint with painstaking precision—to achieve remarkable tonal gradations and textural nuances.
- Subject Matter: Recurring motifs include mythical creatures, ethereal landscapes, and symbolic representations of human experience—reflecting his enduring interest in exploring the intersection between imagination and reality.
