For artworks or reproductions larger than 105 cm (approximately 41 inches) on any side, the frame will be shipped as a kit, disassembled. This method ensures safe delivery and prevents damage during transport.
Professional assembly required - this is not a DIY product.
The kit must be assembled and the canvas stretched by an experienced professional framer, using wood glue (not supplied), a canvas stretching plier and clamps to hold the bars square while the glue dries. Incorrect assembly or uneven canvas tension can permanently damage the artwork and is not covered by our warranty.
All solid wood bars are included, precisely cut to size.
Assembled with the screws provided, plus wood glue for the corner joints, which is not supplied and must be sourced by your framer.
Professional tools are required and not included: a canvas stretching plier (tensioner) and clamps to hold the bars square while the glue dries.
Important:
The corner joints require wood glue, the bars must be held with clamps until the glue is fully dry, and tightening the canvas on the assembled frame requires a canvas stretching plier. None of these are included in the kit. Please arrange an experienced professional framer before ordering this size.

Glindoni’s early years were marked by hardship; orphaned alongside four siblings, he was raised by his grandparents. This formative experience perhaps instilled a sensitivity that would later permeate his work, a gentle empathy for character and narrative. Crucially, it was his grandfather, Robert Glindon – a noted singer, songwriter, *and* a scene painter – who first introduced the young Henry to the world of art, laying the foundation for a career that would blend meticulous technique with an evocative sense of atmosphere.From Theatre Backdrops to Portraits of Character
The influence of his grandfather proved pivotal. Initially assisting in painting theatrical scenes, Glindoni absorbed not only the practical skills of brushwork and composition but also a keen understanding of dramatic lighting and costume design. While he initially pursued landscape painting – documented as his occupation in the 1871 census – it was the allure of figures, particularly those adorned in period dress, that truly captured his artistic imagination. This led to a foray into costume design for London stage productions under various pseudonyms ("Glindoni" and "H.G. Glendoni"), further deepening his knowledge of historical attire and the nuances of character portrayal. He also experimented with porcelain painting, demonstrating a versatile artistic curiosity. Encouraged by fellow actors, he formally studied at Maurice’s Working Men's College and the Castle Street School of Art, solidifying his technical foundation.A Specialist in Costume and Cardinality
Glindoni quickly established himself as a specialist in 17th- and 18th-century costume, becoming particularly renowned for his paintings of Cardinals – figures whose rich vestments and imposing presence lent themselves beautifully to his meticulous style. He exhibited consistently between 1872 and 1904 at prestigious venues including the Royal Academy, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, and the Society of British Artists. He became a full member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1879 and an associate member of the Royal Watercolour Society in 1883, demonstrating his growing recognition within the art establishment.
