Hassan Al-Abadi: Life and Art

Early Life and Political Beginnings

Born in Baghdad, Iraq, in 1952, Hassan Al-Abadi’s life has been deeply intertwined with the political landscape of his nation.
He began as a Shia dissident opposing Saddam Hussein's regime in the late 1970s, leading to 24 years spent in exile.
During this period, he became a senior leader within the Islamic Dawa Party and coordinated anti-Saddam guerrilla activities.
Al-Abadi cultivated relationships with officials from both Iran and Syria during his time abroad.

Political Career and Prime Ministership

Upon returning to Iraq, Al-Abadi worked closely with the Multi-National Force (MNF–I) during and after the American-led occupation.
He continued cooperation with the United States following their withdrawal from Iraq.
From 2014 to 2018, he served as Prime Minister of Iraq, a period marked by challenges including allegations of corruption and sectarian tensions.
Despite attempts to abolish it, Al-Abadi was elected as one of Iraq’s three Vice Presidents in September 2014, holding the position concurrently with his prime ministership.
