Cornelis Springer (1817–1891): A Romantic Vision of Dutch Urban Life

Cornelis Springer, born in Amsterdam in 1817, stands as a pivotal figure in the landscape painting tradition of his era—specifically within the Romantic movement. His artistic journey began under the tutelage of his father, Willem Springer, a carpenter who instilled in him an appreciation for craftsmanship and observation of the natural world.
