The Art and Performance of Linder Sterling

Linder Sterling is a British artist born in Liverpool. Her creative practice encompasses photography, radical feminist photomontage, and confrontational performance art. Beyond her visual work, she was the former frontwoman of the Manchester-based post-punk group Ludus. Her work has been featured in group exhibitions at the Tate Modern, the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. In 2017, she was honored with the Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award.

Her photomontage work utilizes a punk cut-and-paste sensibility to explore themes of rebellion, gender, commodity critique, and the body. Sterling's studio practice involves working from boxes of cut-outs, often accompanied by Indian drone music and the scent of perfume. Her performance art has included works such as The Ultimate Form, a collaboration with choreographer Kenneth Tindall, and Children of the Stain.
