Constantin Hansen, en fremtrædende skikkelse i den danske guldalder inden for malerkunsten, blev født den 3. november 1804 i Rom, Italien. Hans far, Hans Hansen, var portrætmaler, og hans gudmor var enken efter Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
