The Artistic Journey of Marcelle Loubchansky
Born in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, France, Marcelle Loubchansky was a French painter. Her formal artistic training began at the Beaux-Arts and the Arts déco in Paris. During the Second World War, she took refuge in Cannes, where she practiced ceramics. Upon her return to Paris in 1946, she began actively practicing abstract painting. During this period, she was part of the literary and artistic circles of Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
Her early works were characterized by an abundance of intertwined forms and wandering graphics. As her career progressed, her technique evolved to include large areas of iridescent color and light. This was achieved by pouring diluted paint directly onto the canvas and manipulating it to create fluid zones of nuance and shadow, which she then worked with a brush. In the 1960s, her paintings featured transparent colors, including intense reds, yellows, and pinks.
