Born Rakesh Kumar in Mumbai, India, in 1943, Rakesh Roshan is a multifaceted artist best known as an Indian film producer, director, screenwriter, and actor.
He comes from a deeply artistic family; his father, Roshan, was a renowned Punjabi music director, and his mother, Ira Roshan, was a Bengali singer. This upbringing significantly influenced his creative path.

Career in Hindi Cinema

Roshan began his career as an actor, appearing in approximately 84 films throughout the 1970s and 1980s. He often took on supporting roles in large-scale productions.
His prominence grew when he transitioned into directing in 1987. A defining characteristic of his directorial work is that most of his film titles begin with the letter 'K'.
Notable Films: His directorial credits include action dramas like Khudgarz (1987), revenge thrillers such as Khoon Bhari Maang (1988), the action-comedy Kishen Kanhaiya (1990), and the melodramatic thriller Karan Arjun (1995).
He achieved widespread acclaim with the musical romantic thriller Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai (2000), which launched his son, Hrithik Roshan, to stardom. He continued success with science fiction like Koi… Mil Gaya (2003) and its sequels, forming the popular superhero Krrish film series (2006–13).
