The foundation of Lu’s mastery was laid through a rigorous apprenticeship under luminaries of Chinese letters and art. In 1927, he followed the scholar-official Wang Tongyu to immerse himself in the delicate arts of poetry and calligraphy, an education that ensured his paintings would always possess a literary depth. This was further enriched by the mentorship of the Shanghai painter Feng Chaoran, who guided Lu toward the technical brilliance of the Four Wangs.
