Life and Academic Career
Adolf Hartmann was a German painter born in Munich. He was the eldest of four sons born to the painter Friedrich Richard Hartmann and Gertraud Hartmann, and his youngest brother was the composer Karl Amadeus Hartmann. His artistic training began as a church painter apprentice in Donauwörth before he attended the Städtische Gewerbeschule in Munich.
