under the patronage of sultan abdülaziz, şeker ahmed paşa was sent to paris in 1864 to study art under gustave boulanger and jean-léon gérôme. he exhibited his oil paintings at the paris salon in 1869, marking a significant milestone in his career.

upon returning to istanbul in 1871, şeker ahmed paşa was promoted to captain. over the years, he rapidly advanced through the military ranks:
