As the daughter of William Lewis Stanton, a successful wholesaler, her upbringing was steeped in the cultural richness of a prominent Southern family. Her early years were marked by a profound connection to the landscape and legends of her home; living across from the famed author Joel Chandler Harris, she breathed in the same air of folklore and history that shaped his literary masterpieces.
