A Geometry of Form
The pale limestone holds a quiet weight, its surface rough and uneven under the light. Within this block, a human presence emerges not through soft curves, but through a deliberate arrangement of rectangular planes and stacked layers. The figure sits, yet the body is fragmented into sharp, angular edges that defy traditional anatomy. Each piece of stone seems to interlock like a mechanical device or an organic obelisk, creating a sense of architectural strength. There is no smooth skin here, only the tactile reality of the sculptor’s hand-carving process and the cool, beige grain of the mineral.
The eyes find themselves tracing lines that move across the composition in multiple directions at once. This technique breaks the single viewpoint, forcing a movement of the gaze that mimics the way we perceive depth and volume in space. The light falls from above, casting shadows into the deep recesses between the stone blocks, which adds a layer of complexity to the flattened perspective. It is a reconstruction of reality where the subject is dismantled and rebuilt through a new visual logic.

In 1917, the air in Paris pulses with the energy of the avant-garde. This sculpture breathes that same revolutionary spirit, born from the radical shifts seen in the works of Picasso and Braque.
