Ian Fleming (1906 – 1994) stands as a prominent figure in Scottish art history, remembered primarily for his masterful depictions of Glasgow and its surroundings—harbors bustling with activity, intimate portraits capturing the essence of human character, and landscapes imbued with atmospheric detail. Born in Edinburgh, Fleming’s artistic journey began at Gray's School of Art, where he honed his skills as a painter and sculptor before embarking on a distinguished teaching career. This formative experience instilled within him a deep appreciation for observation and meticulous technique, qualities that would permeate throughout his oeuvre. Fleming’s artistic style evolved considerably over time, transitioning from early landscapes to more ambitious oil paintings exploring themes of social realism and psychological insight.
