Later Years and Artistic Struggles
In the later stages of his life, Frankenstein's career was marked by significant shifts and personal grievances. Following a divorce in 1859, he became increasingly critical of the art establishment, eventually publishing a satirical pamphlet titled American Art: Its Awful Altitude in 1864.
His final years were spent in New York City, where he turned to writing political-satirical poetry and articles. He died in East New York, Brooklyn, while working on a bust of Reuben D. Mussey Jr.
