Born in Sint Jacobiparochie, Netherlands, Germ de Jong began his path in the classrooms of Quellinus, a school dedicated to the instruction of the poor. This early training provided a foundation for a career that would eventually move from the modest surroundings of his youth to the intellectual centers of Europe. His talent was recognized early; by 1918, his first solo exhibition had concluded with every work sold within a mere ten days.
