For fifty years, he drew the plates for this publication, producing approximately 2,600 fashion plates that were eventually republished in France, Germany, Britain, Spain, and America. He was a pioneer in this field by introducing contemporary backgrounds into his plates, allowing readers to see the latest styles and colors from Paris.
His influence extended to the English-speaking world when Samuel Orchart Beeton began including David's hand-colored fashion plates in The Englishwoman's Domestic Magazine. These illustrations provided readers with a visual connection to the fashion center of the world, often accompanied by paper patterns for domestic sewing machines.
