A Royal Lens: The Life and Art of Sophie de Roumanie

Born in 1957 at the serene Tatoi Palace in Greece, Princess Sophie de Roumanie embodies a unique intersection of royal heritage and artistic passion. As the fourth daughter of King Michael I and Queen Anne of Romania, her life was steeped in history and tradition, yet she forged her own path as a dedicated photographer, becoming a visual chronicler of her ancestral homeland. Her early years were marked by a nomadic existence, shaped by her family’s exile from Romania following the communist takeover. Educated in Switzerland and the United Kingdom, Sophie developed a keen eye for aesthetics, pursuing studies in Fine Arts at the University of North Carolina, Asheville, and Graphic Design and Photography at the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, D.C. These formative experiences laid the foundation for her future artistic endeavors, nurturing a talent that would ultimately serve as a powerful bridge between past and present.
