Biografia do Artista
The Life of Manuel Barrón y Carrillo
Born in Seville, Spain, Manuel Barrón y Carrillo was a painter who dedicated his life to his home city. He received his formal artistic training at the School of Fine Arts of Seville, studying under Antonio Cabral Bejarano. His professional career was deeply intertwined with this institution, where he served as a lecturer teaching drawing, perspective, and landscape painting, eventually becoming its director. Beyond his teaching, he was a founding member of the Liceo Artístico, an institution established to promote culture and art. His creative output was particularly prolific between 1852 and 1869, and he remained active in the art community until his death in Seville.
Artistic Style and Notable Works
Barrón y Carrillo specialized in landscape painting, capturing both urban and rural environments. His compositions often integrated well-structured perspectives with human figures, such as merchants, travelers, or peasants, engaged in daily activities. These figures often displayed traditional clothing and social interactions, lending a costumbrista quality to his scenes. His urban works frequently depicted the monuments, streets, and squares of Seville, while his rural paintings focused on rivers, fields, and roads.
His technical skill earned him recognition in various exhibitions, including:
