Shirin Neshat’s artistic consciousness was forged in the crucible of profound political transformation. In the early 1990s, Neshat’s return to Iran sparked one of her most iconic and haunting series, Women of Allah. In these works, the female body becomes a canvas for Persian poetry; delicate calligraphy by figures such as Forough Farrokhzad is etched across faces, hands, and feet.
