The Artistic Evolution of Ode Bertrand
Born in Paris, France, Ode Bertrand began her creative journey through the discipline of classical dance in her youth before turning toward the visual arts. For thirty-five years, she served as an assistant to her niece, Aurélie Nemours, acting as both a student and a disciple. This period of mentorship ran parallel to the development of her own personal body of work, which emerged within the movements of geometric abstract art and concrete art.
Her practice is characterized by a focus on geometric figures defined around the golden ratio. Her compositions range from intricate grids that cover the entire pictorial surface to more minimalist works where structure plays a vital role. Throughout her oeuvre, the line serves as the fundamental, guiding element, evolving from structured forms toward the sign.
