A Life in Mannheim
Louis Coblitz lived his life within the boundaries of Mannheim. Born in 1814, he spent his years in this German city until his death in 1863. Coblitz moved between the intimacy of a portrait and the quietness of a landscape. He captured the light on the Rhine in 1860, creating Altrheinlandschaft, a view of the old Rhine landscape. This work sits within the Reiss Museum Mannheim, a place that holds much of his local memory.
His range included different settings and subjects:
