      Born in the quiet, sun-drenched landscapes of Saint Rose, Louisiana, Victoria Margaret Taylor carried within her a profound sense of purpose that would eventually reshape the cultural landscape of Chicago. Her journey was one of navigating the complexities of the Jim Crow era, where every academic pursuit and artistic endeavor became an act of reclamation. As she moved to Chicago and pursued her studies at the Art Institute of Chicago, earning both her BFA and MFA, she began to weave the threads of her personal history into a larger narrative of African American excellence. Her life was not merely about individual achievement but about building foundations for others, transforming the struggle for recognition into a vibrant celebration of Black heritage.

      The Art of the Line and the Lyric

      Burroughs’ artistic language was uniquely characterized by its ability to speak through both visual and verbal textures. In her celebrated linocut prints, she utilized bold, striking lines to capture the weight of history and the intimacy of daily life.
