Born on September 5th, 1946, in Vsetín, Štreit’s artistic journey began during his studies at Palacký University in Olomouc, where he pursued pedagogy alongside art education—a dual focus that profoundly shaped his worldview and artistic approach. This formative period instilled a deep appreciation for observation and storytelling, qualities which would become hallmarks of his distinctive photographic style. His lens did not merely record events; it sought to interpret the very soul of the Czech countryside.

His early career unfolded amidst the heavy backdrop of communist Czechoslovakia, where Štreit diligently documented daily life in Czech villages under repressive regimes. Serving as an elementary school teacher and later as the director of Sovinec School, his professional roles provided him with invaluable insight into the social fabric of his region. More than just a profession, photography became a vocation—a means of preserving memory and conveying truth amidst ideological constraints.
