A Life in Stockholm
Erik Hallgren lived much of his life within the quiet rhythms of Stockholm. Born on 27 August 1910, he grew up in the Swedish capital, a place that would remain his home and his primary setting for many years. His presence in the city was marked by a steady dedication to his craft as a painter.
While some records suggest different years for his passing, the dates 1989 or 2000 mark the end of his time. He left behind a body of work that reflects the landscapes and scenes he encountered throughout his life in Sweden.
The Language of Landscapes
Hallgren’s paintings often turned toward the natural world, capturing specific moments of light and atmosphere. His brush captured various settings, from quiet rural scenes to more dramatic skies. Some of his known works include:
- Strand mit Lagune
- Landschaft mit Feldern und Bauer
- Landschaft mit Gewitterhimmel
- Mann am Gartentisch
- Landschaft mit Bauernkate und heimkehrenden Kühen
- Gata, St Servon (1950)
In these pieces, he focused on the interaction between land and sky. He often depicted the presence of people or animals within these environments, such as farmers or cows returning to a cottage. His work carries the weight of everyday life in the Swedish countryside.
A Legacy in Paint
Though he may have been known by the simple monogram EH, his contribution to the local art scene remains documented in collections such as the Nationalmuseum. His paintings have appeared in various auctions, where they continue to be found by collectors of Swedish art.
The market for his work has seen pieces sold through houses like Kunst & Kuriosa. These transactions keep his visual observations alive, allowing others to see the Stockholm and the landscapes he once painted with such care.
