Grimm’s work is characterized by a distinct style developed alongside colleagues like Karl Ballmer and Karl Kluth, known as the Hamburg Sezession style. His repertoire included portraits, landscapes, and still lifes, but he became particularly noted for his "Rummelpott" scenes. These works captured the atmosphere of the North German tradition of children dressing in grotesque masks to collect treats, often juxtaposing these lively groups with a solitary, melancholic girl figure.
