The Artistic Evolution of Salomé
Born Wolfgang Ludwig Cihlarz in Karlsruhe, West Germany, the artist known as Salomé emerged as a prominent figure within the Junge Wilde or Neue Wilde movement. After training as an architectural draftsman, he moved to West Berlin in 1973, where he studied painting at the Berlin Academy of Art. His creative life in Berlin was deeply intertwined with the city's nightlife; he worked as a waiter in clubs such as Matalla and Dschungel, and the pseudonym Salomé was given to him in 1974 by Gerhard Hoffmann. Beyond the canvas, he is recognized as a sculptor and a Punk singer, having formed the band Geile Tiere with Luciano Castelli in 1980.
