Artistic Contributions and Legacy
As a founding member of the American Abstract Artists, Holtzman played a significant role in the development of modern art in New York. He was instrumental in organizing the nucleus of painters and sculptors who established the group. His involvement extended to the WPA Federal Art project, where he served as an assistant supervisor in charge of abstract mural painters. Beyond his own painting, Holtzman was deeply connected to the international art community, notably serving as an intimate associate to Piet Mondrian during the latter's time in New York.
