The Life and Artistic Path of Roger Grillon
Born in Poitiers, France, Roger Grillon was a painter, xylographer, graphic artist, and illustrator. Following his studies at the school of fine arts in Poitiers, he entered the studio of Fernand Cormon at the Beaux-Arts de Paris. Seeking a more independent form of instruction, he moved away from academic teaching to frequent various workshops and academies. His career saw him move from Paris to several locations, including Céret, Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Prades, and finally Lagrasse in the Corbières, where he remained until his death in Maule.
Grillon's professional journey included several notable exhibitions. He initially exhibited at the Salon des artistes français before turning his attention to the Indépendants and the Salon d'automne. In 1926, he was granted a solo exhibition by the Galerie Berthe Weill. His work has been preserved in various institutions, including the Musée national d'Art moderne and the Musée du Luxembourg.
