Robert Wellmann was born in 1866 in Miercurea Sibiului, Romania. His early years were shaped by the educational traditions of the Evangelical Gymnasium in Sibiu, where he completed his studies in 1888. In 1889, he joined the class of Professor Gabriel Hackl, studying in the same academic environment as Arthur Coulin and Fritz Schullerus.
