The Life of Abraham Ángel
Abraham Ángel was a Mexican artist born in El Oro, State of Mexico. He was the youngest of five children, born to Lewis Edward Card Burke, a Welsh miner and adventurer, and Francisca Valdez. Following his father's departure from the family, the family relocated to Puebla, and later, at age 11, Abraham Ángel moved to Mexico City with his mother and siblings.
At age 16, after deciding to pursue art studies at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes, he was expelled from his home by his brother, Adolfo. During this time, he studied drawing under Manuel Rodríguez Lozano, using methods based on Adolfo Best Maugard. Following a period of personal difficulty and the loss of his mentor's patronage, he died on 27 October 1924.
