Born in the quiet landscapes of Cozad, Nebraska, in 1942, Daniel Christensen’s artistic journey began far from the frenetic energy of the New York avant-garde, yet his spirit was always destined for the center of the modern movement. As a student at the Kansas City Art Institute, alongside contemporaries such as Ronnie Landfield, Christensen began to cultivate a unique sensitivity to the interplay between space and substance, preparing himself for a transformative move toward the epicenter of American modernism.A Symphony of Color and Abstraction
As his career matured, Christensen moved beyond the constraints of minimalism into the lush, atmospheric realms of Lyrical Abstraction and Color Field painting. The legendary critic Clement Greenberg famously identified his contributions within the context of Post-Painterly Abstraction, noting how Christensen masterfully utilized both line and color to create depth without relying on traditional representational motifs.
