A Sculptural Presence
Born in 1946, Kees Jansen has spent decades shaping form through the medium of sculpture. His work exists in the physical space between the viewer and the object, demanding a certain awareness of volume and mass. While many artists seek to capture a fleeting moment, Jansen’s practice is rooted in the permanence of the material, a pursuit that has seen his pieces find a place within significant collections.
His presence in the contemporary art landscape is marked by a quiet, steady development. Rather than following the loud trends of a specific movement, his output suggests a focused engagement with the tactile nature of his craft. This dedication to the physical reality of sculpture is reflected in the way his works are preserved and studied by institutions.
Institutional Recognition
The significance of an artist is often measured by the permanence of their work in public and private repositories. For Jansen, this recognition is anchored in the Netherlands, specifically within the curated environments of regional museums. His contributions are held within the following collections:
- Museum van Bommel van Dam, Venlo
The inclusion of his work in the Museum van Bommel van Dam highlights a connection to the modern and contemporary art history of the Venlo region. This placement ensures that his sculptural language remains part of a larger, evolving dialogue regarding Dutch modernism.
The Early Form
The trajectory of his career can be traced through specific, early instances of his creative output. In 1963, his work Untitled was already being recognized, appearing in the collection of the Museum van Bommel van Dam. This early entry into the record of significant art collections suggests a long-standing commitment to his chosen discipline. His work remains a part of the ongoing study of form and space within the Dutch sculptural tradition.
