The story of Carl August Henry Ericsson begins in Mikkeli, Finland. Born on 6 February 1898, he moves through the early decades of the twentieth century as a figure defined by movement between academic centers. Between 1922 and 1924, the atmosphere of Académie Colarossi and Académie de la Grande Chaumiere shapes his technical development. These years in France represent a period of intense formal training, far from the Finnish landscapes of his youth.

His work exists within the collections of the Finnish National Gallery and the University of Helsinki, Department of Art History.
