Born in Chicago in 1818, Charles W. White is one of America’s most renowned and recognized Social Realist artists. White worked primarily in black & white drawings, paintings, and lithographs. His meticulously executed drawings and paintings speak of and affirm the humanity and beauty of African American people and culture. White and his wife Frances Barrett moved to Los Angeles, California in 1956, where he further developed his art and was a teacher at Otis Art Institute, teaching such now prominent artists as Kerry James Marshall and David Hammons.
