V živobném a intelektuálním prostředí Nizozemských nížin 16. století se málo postav vynikalo takovým významem nebo vlivem jako Frans Floris. Historii známý jako Frans Floris Starší, tento průkopník flandrického renesance působil jako vitální most mezi severními tradicemi své domoviny a monumentální velkolepostí italského vrcholného renesance.
