The Last Supper
199.0 x 300.0 cm
The Last Supper is a work by the Japanese artist Keiichi Tanaami (Tokyo, Japan, 1936), considered the father of Japanese Pop Art. Tanaami was a child during the US bombing campaign of Tokyo in World War II and these childhood memories - images of war and destruction - have had a great impact on his work. He was also influenced by the serious illness he suffered in the 1980s, which made motifs about life and death, such as skulls, gain presence in his work. In his latest works, he incorporates more current materials, such as glitter, into his psychedelic and hyper-colourful paintings to represent his dreams, memories and hallucinations.
