The Life and Artistic Practice of Werner Paul Schmidt
Werner Paul Schmidt was a German painter and graphic artist. He pursued his artistic education at the Großherzoglich-Sächsische Kunstschule in Weimar under Max Thedy, and later studied at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste München starting in 1906, where he was a student of Franz von Stuck from 1913. Beyond his paintings, Schmidt was a prolific illustrator. He provided book decorations and illustrations for various publishers, including the Inselverlag, Drei-Masken-Verlag, and Kurt Wolff-Verlag, working on editions of works by Goethe, Théophile Gautier, and Balzac. His illustrations also appeared in magazines such as Simplicissimus and Jugend.
