His formative years were marked by enrollment at Kolozsvár Teacher Training College and subsequent teaching positions in Homokmégy, where he honed his observational skills through charcoal drawing – an activity that would prove pivotal to his artistic trajectory. Inspired by Gusztáv Kelety’s encouragement, Nagy embarked on a journey toward formal art training at Budapest University of Fine Arts, mentored by Bertalan Székely and further enriched by studies in Munich with Franz von Lenbach.
