At sixteen, driven by an unquenchable thirst for the mastery of icon painting, Malyavin embarked on an ambitious journey to Greece. Yet, within the hallowed monasteries of Mount Athos, he encountered a startling truth: the art practiced there was one of replication rather than innovation.
