The Life and Early Work of Jacques Doucet Jacques Doucet was born on April 9, 1924, in Boulogne-Billancourt, France. Even in his earliest years, he spent his time creating drawings and writing scenes that leaned toward the humorous. These early sketches and stories formed the first traces of his hand. In 1941, he traveled to Saint-Benoît-sur-Loire, where he met a poet and painter named Max Jacob. It was during this time that Jacob enco
uraged him to pursue drawing and painting more seriously. This period of mentorship helped shape the direction of his developing practice. The years of the Second World War brought significant disruption to his life. During the conflict, Jacques Doucet was interned as a political prisoner.
