This early exposure to the nuances of wood and form provided a unique foundation for his
later mastery of cityscape painting. His formal education at the Amsterdam Academy of Fine Arts under Jacobus van der Stok, coupled with private mentorship from Hendrik Gerrit ten Cate and Kasparus Karsen, allowed him to transcend mere technical skill.
