charles edward dixon, a british maritime painter, was born on december 8, 1872, in goring-on-thames. as the son of alfred dixon, a successful genre painter, charles was educated in the trade from an early age. he soon developed a successful practice, producing nautical scenes, both watercolors of coastal life and large oil paintings of historical or contemporary naval subjects.

legacy and later life
