Gu Dexin’s story is one of profound quiet rebellion, a refusal to conform to the established narratives of Chinese art history. Born in Beijing in 1962, he emerged from the vibrant, yet often chaotic, landscape of the late 1980s and early 1990s – a period of unprecedented artistic experimentation following China’s opening up to the world.
