By 1881, he had moved to Greenwich, Connecticut, though he often sought the warmth of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, to spend his winters. It was during this period that he likely became the first prominent artist to depict pointing dogs and the specific, focused energy of upland bird hunting and field trials in America.
