Grand Maitre of the Outsider (1947) by Jean Dubuffet

Grand Maitre of the Outsider

1947 · Oil On Canvas

The canvas confronts the viewer with a face that seems to have been pulled directly from the earth. It is a portrait, yet it mocks the very idea of a formal likeness. An older male figure emerges from a deep, dark void, his features rendered in crude, simple shapes that feel urgent and unpolished. His eyes are wide, fixed in a stare that radiates annoyance, while his mouth hangs slightly…

Logologie (1974) by Jean Dubuffet

Logologie

1974 · Screenprint · İsrail Müzesi, Kudüs

In this 1974 work, titled Logologie, we find ourselves drawn into a scene of quiet, concentrated intensity. A group of men is gathered around a table, their bodies leaning inward as if caught in a moment of profound significance. The composition is anchored by a deep, saturated cobalt blue backdrop that meets a textured, tan-colored wall, creating a sharp, theatrical contrast. This division of space directs the eye immediately to…

Getting to know Jean Dubuffet

Jean Dubuffet’in görsel dünya üzerindeki etkisi, akademik mükemmeliyetçiliğe ve parlatılmış estetiğe karşı sergilediği o kararlı reddiyede kök salar.
