Biografi

Tidigt liv och utbildning

Överste Valentine Blacker, en hyllad konstnär och militär officer, föddes i Armagh, Nordirland, år 1778. Hans familj hade sitt anrika hem i baronin Oneilland East. Även om Blackers tidiga liv inte är väl dokumenterat, vet vi att han erhållit sin kommission i Madras-kavalleriet år 1798.

Militär karriär

1799: utnämnd till kornett i Madras-kavalleriet
1800: adjutant till överste Stevenson i Wayanad-distriktet
1810: kvartalsgeneral
1817: tjänstgjorde i Deccan, befordrad till överste
1823: efterträdde John Hodgson som generalintendent för lantmäteriet i Indien
