career and artistic development anders castus svarstad, a norwegian painter, is most frequently associated with his urban landscapes. born on may 22, 1869, in hole, norway, svarstad's artistic journey began at the norwegian national academy of craft and art industry in kristiania (now oslo) from 1886 to 1889. he later worked as a decorative painter, including a stint in chicago at the world's columbian exposition (1892–94). svarstad's s
