Born in Ystalyfera, within the Swansea Valley of South Wales, Evans’ early years were defined by the grit and toil of the coal mines. From the tender age of thirteen, he worked as a collier, an experience that would later become the very heartbeat of his creative output. His journey from the pits to the palette began in 1911 through part-time classes at the Swansea School of Art.
